Website security is a major concern for everyone today. These h*cking attacks are unpredictable and may happen at any given point of time. Currently, an attack happens every 39 seconds in the United States that affects one in three Americans yearly. This alone is enough reason for us to protect our site and our clients data form breach during such attacks.  Above all, it’s very important for us to know how we can prevent such attacks and protect our site form harm.

 

Ways to Secure Your Website

  1. Keep your apps and plugins updated

Outdated software’s and plugins are one of the easy back doors for h*ckers to get into our system. There are many potential sites and bots constantly scanning the internet for such vulnerability to launch an attack. Here, updates include many security fixes and vulnerability fixes that are important for the health and security of our sites. As such, we should always consider all security and plugin updates seriously as the longer we wait, the more risk we’ll be in. similarly, updates also bring new features that may increase the functionality of our sites as well.

  1. Pick a Secure Password

There are many sites and platforms that require users to login through their user ids and passwords. Generally, people prefer to choose a single password for all those numerous platforms for their convenience. Such acts drastically compromise our security as one password gives them access to all of our accounts. Here, we should never use the same passwords twice or give others access to ours.  Our passwords should contain at least 14 digits with a mixture of numbers, symbols, upper and lower cases etc. Similarly, it’s best to change our passwords every 3 months or so. As a business owner or site manager, we should instruct our employees to change their passwords frequently.

A good backup solution is a must for the longevity of any website. If possible, it’s ideal to have more than one backup tool at place, in case one fails. They are very crucial for recovering our site in the event of an attack or breach.  We should try to keep our valuable information off-site, ideally on our personal computer or a separate hard disk. However, it’s not ideal to store backups in the same server as the site. This increases risk and may also result in the loss of the backup data as well. Similarly, it’s a great idea to automate the backups in timely manner to a reliable recovery system.

Web application firewall is an excellent method to secure our site from any or all external attacks or breach. Here, it filters, monitors, inspects and blocks various HTTPs traffic that comes to and from our site and prevents various attacks. Furthermore, it can also filter various unnecessary like bots and scammers as well. Considering this, we should always make sure to apply for Web Application Firewall (WAF) for maximum possible security.
